Disney Transportation: How to Get from A to B on Your Mobility Scooter

Disney Transportation: How to Get from A to B on Your Mobility Scooter

The bags are packed, you’ve secured your mobility scooter rental, and everyone is amped up for a trip to the “Happiest Place on Earth”. However, you may be feeling overwhelmed about navigating crowded theme parks overrun with tourists and small children. Orlando’s Disney World is a lot more mobile friendly than you might think, so there are plenty of options for navigating the park easily and without stress.

From the Airport

One of the magical things Disney World provides when you first get off the plane is a complimentary bus ride on the Magical Express. They load your luggage on and off the bus and give you a free bus ride back to the airport after your trip. These motorcoaches are all ECV, scooter, and wheelchair accessible. You just need to indicate you will need a wheelchair lift while making your bus reservation.

Bus Access

According to Disney, all bus routes are able to accommodate various types of scooters and wheelchairs as long as they fit the following guidelines:

  • The scooter must fit the bus lift without being forced.
  • The scooter must be fastened with restraints on board.

Typically, buses can hold up to two scooters in the securement area. If you want to transfer from a scooter or wheelchair to walk on board, you can ask the driver to lower a lift in the back of the bus before boarding.

Monorails

The monorail is a fun, common way to get from point A to point B around the park without having to worry about navigating bus routes. There are elevators and ramps at the following Transportation and Ticket centers:

  • Magic Kingdom Park
  • Epcot
  • Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa
  • Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort
  • Disney’s Contemporary Resort

Parking

There is plenty of parking for guests with all different types of disabilities throughout the Walt Disney World Resort. At the theme park, there is a specific parking lot for guests that are just a short distance from the entrance of all 4 parks. They accommodate anyone with mobility disabilities, including those traveling with personal wheelchairs, mobility scooters, and other devices.

Going on Rides

Bringing along your mobility scooter doesn’t mean you have to watch the fun from the sidelines. The rides and attractions at Disney have various accessibility levels and are easy to access from your wheelchair. The theme park divides the attractions into these three areas where you:

  • Must transfer from wheelchair/ECV to ride car
  • Must transfer from ECV to a wheelchair
  • Must transfer from ECV to a wheelchair, and from wheelchair to ride car

However, there are a lot of iconic attractions in all four parks where you don’t have to get up from your scooter or wheelchair at all, such as the Jungle Cruise in the Magic Kingdom, the Advanced Training Lab in Epcot, Star Wars Launch Bay at Hollywood Studios, and the Tree of Life Garden at the Animal Kingdom. You can find a complete list of rides and attractions and their accessibility levels.
